What is the Sicilian Dragon?

An energetic and agressive defense for black against 1.e4. It frst appeared in 1890, and ever since has been played by the likes of Magnus Carlsen, Garry Kasparov, Hikaru Nakamura, Viswanathan Anand, and Alexander Grischuk, just to name a few! Black's Idea is to keep a very solid pawn structure, and let the pieces do the heavy lifting. Indeed, the dark-square bishop which sits on g7, the queen that travels to h5, the light-square bishop that often lands on e6, and the rooks which dominate over the semi-open files, give black great dynamic play, and chances for quick attacks (refer to diagram for piece placement).
